Day 49: Seattle, WA

So today we had another rest day in the Seattle/Bremerton area. My Uncle Jim drove us around everywhere today, as we ran errands to a bike shop, sporting goods store, and to Best Buy. It was much needed though.

Justin and I went with my Uncle Jim to one of the Navy bases, and it was cool to drive through the security gate with our ID's. Then we went to Global Bean, a coffee shop that puts any Texas coffee to shame. Probably the best frappucino I've ever had... anything named "German Chocolate Cake" has to be good. :)

After running errands, we spent some time talking to media and doing laundry. The Kitsap Sun did a story on us that should be out tomorrow: www.kitsapsun.com

Later on, we had steak, baked potatoes, and salad for dinner. We were so happy to get these huge steaks as big as our plates! Yum. What a good way to end our time here. It has been so good telling stories about my uncle's childhood, and reminiscing on the last time we spent time together. I'll really miss being here. So many times we've heard, "You're gonna have to make yourselves at home. We've got a full fridge: plenty to eat and drink, so just help yourself." Not very often do we hear that, and after a few days I feel like we've lived here forever. I'm so comfortable here.

I love my family so much, and I hope that it won't be another 13 years before I see my great uncle and aunt again... that's way too long, as far as I'm concerned.

The Seattle/Bremerton area is gorgeous and the weather's been quite alright. Justin and I went for a 25 minute run earlier, and it rained for almost 10 of those minutes. It felt good though. We enjoyed the view of the trees, and the Cascade mountains in the background. I almost don't want to leave!

Enjoying my stay,
Alyson

So glad you've had some fun days in Seattle! I knew you'd love it. Wish you could stay for the fireworks there as well - its amazing over the Bay.

Here is the Kitsap Sun article. http://www.kitsapsun.com/news/2008/jul/02/students-prove-lifes-about-the-journey/

Also just found a small Oregonian article from last week: http://blog.oregonlive.com/breakingnews/2008/06/students_bike_through_oregon_t.html

Enjoy your travels north!
