Day 59: Prince George, BC

We had so much fun hanging out with some people our age last night... thanks for the golf ball throwing game and video game extravaganza Josh, Jared, Catt, and Jordan!

Today we slept in til 9:30 and woke up to have a great breakfast at Tim and Barb's. We met up with Dera, a girl that works at Starbucks (yea, Baristas!) and got our info through church connections. She took us into town, where we went to the art gallery for free. My favorite exhibit was by a guy that makes art completely out of recycled materials... he created an abstract model of NYC out of bottles, cans, rubber tubes, and other crazy items. Pretty neat.

After that, Dera took us to her parent's house, and we had an incredible lunch: BBQ chicken, potatoes, and caesar salad, with tea and butterscotch pudding for dessert. Yum. :) They had a bull terrier and a great dane. The dogs were so sweet.

We got back to our host homes (I'm staying right across the street from the boys), and talked with media. We've now been a part of the Prince George Citizen (the newspaper), 94x and "The Wolf" radio stations, and PGTV. This has been very beneficial media-wise for Prince George.

After that, Nate and I ran to a bike shop to fix my rear wheel; the rear dropout was pretty much warn to nothing, so the chain and derailer pulley were struggling to keep up, and the wheel had no grip on it, so every few days the back wheel was sliding completely out of the frame! Not good. The guys at CYCLE LOGIC helped us out, though. They wouldn't sell us an individual wheel (we had no time to order a new dropout, unless we stayed until Wednesday!) so we had to buy the set. They gave us a smoking deal that we couldn't say no to, and gave my bike a once-over at no additional charge. They loved the Easton fork I had and complimented the Chromali frame... I always knew my bike was the hottest one on the trip! Thanks for loaning the bike, Uncle Mark!

After we got back from the bike shop, the 4 of us had dinner at my host's house, with Mike and Vicky Nudds. We ate some of the best hamburgers, baked beans, and potato salad ever! They almost put Texas BBQ to shame. We finished off dinner with watermelon and cookies. :)

We talked for a few minutes, and then left for the movies to meet up with some other Facebook fans: Ashley and Kyle. We saw Wall-E, which was really good. Having gone through a lot of more environmentally-friendly areas of the states, and Canada, The A.C. really appreciated the movie. It had a great message, and the graphic detail was incredible. Wall-E made me want to change the world or something. And the robot's so cute too! We went with our new buddies to a local place for Bubble Tea, and spent the next hour and a half talking about everything from accents to roadways to gun laws and everything in between. It seems like we've done a lot of comparing between the states and provinces since we got here. It's fun.

We wanted to stay and chat longer, but we had to get back as we have a day of riding tomorrow morning.

We have no idea if we'll have internet or cell reception from here to Anchorage, so please bear with us if the blogs are posted several days after the fact.

Still alive and almost home,
Alyson

I once attended a Young Life camp out Northwest of Prince George somewhere in the inlets along the Pacific. It was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, massive forrested mountains dropping all the way to a crystaline ocean shore. Share the Love that Saves and I don't mean preach, I mean LOVE on People with the Love that only Christ can provide.stoops

Reading about your trip has been so inspiring to me, and I am so proud of the four of you, and Kyle, for all that you have done. You're all doing such a fantastic thing, and I'm slightly jealous. I can't wait until the documentary is done, especially since I am also a Baylor FDM major and know that it will be well done.

I want you all to know that you are a group of very strong individuals and I thank you for standing up to fight against suicide. Your campaign is so inspiring to me, and brings so much joy in my heart to see young individuals such as yourselves making a difference in the world. Stay strong and keep up the good work!! I am here to support you and I will keep all of you in my prayers. God Bless You.

One of the most beloved Canadians was a young BC guy named Terry Fox. Terry lost his right leg to cancer as a child and decided to do something completely razy - to run across Canada.

He started running in NewFoundland, running an entire marathon each day. He ran through pain, and rain, and heat, until his cancer reappeared and he was forced to stop.

He is the closest think that Canadians have to a hero.

I can't help but think of him when I read your posts. What you're doing matters... But I imagine you know that already.

Peace
